Property industry charity LandAid has awarded a record £1,260,924 in grants to 23 projects, making 2014/2015 the best-ever year for the charity.
LandAid’s latest grants have been awarded to the Belfast Buildings Trust, which received £100,000, Country Holidays for Inner City Kids (CHICKS) which received £116,000 and The Ashley Foundation which was awarded £102,000.
The three projects receiving grants all focus on helping children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in the UK.
The Belfast Buildings Trust brings the city’s landmark buildings back into use for community purposes. It has already completed three projects, and is about to embark on the conversion of the derelict Carlisle Memorial Church into a hospitality training academy for local young people.
Derbyshire based CHICKS runs respite holidays for young people and children from low income families, giving them an opportunity to take a break from difficult home circumstances. LandAid’s grant will help convert two barns to create a large kitchen and all-weather sports facility at a new outreach centre.
The Ashley Foundation is a homeless charity based in Blackpool which aims to provide individuals with the skills needed for independent living. LandAid’s grant will help refurbish an empty property to provide accommodation for young people at risk of homelessness.
LandAid was founded in 1986 and was inspired by the LiveAid charity concert organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure which had taken place the previous summer.
Today, LandAid supports local charities working with disadvantaged children and young people through the donation of grants, joint funding, free property and advice.
This support enables LandAid’s partners to grow and flourish, making a huge difference to the lives of many disadvantaged youngsters.
