Rezidor Hotel Group, the owner of Radisson Blu, has confirmed that it is to open a new 220-bedroom hotel serving Birmingham Airport.
The announcement coincides with the extension of charter flights to China and major commercial developments within the city designed to establish Birmingham as an international business destination.
The hotel will reportedly include a restaurant, a lounge bar and almost 14,000 sq ft of meeting and event space. A shuttle bus service will connect it to the airport terminals, railway station and the NEC. The company’s website confirms it is scheduled to open in 2017, but no precise location is given.
It will become the 15th Radisson Blu branded hotel in the UK and the second in Birmingham. The existing 39-storey hotel, in Holloway Circus, is one of the most prominent skyscrapers in the city centre. The building was acquired by a Dubai based property company in January after the previous owners entered administration.
Wolfgang Neumann, President and Chief Executive of Rezidor Hotel Group, told the Birmingham Post; “The Radisson Blu hotel, Birmingham Airport will ideally complement the existing Radisson Blu hotel in the city centre, create potential for operational and marketing synergies, and enforce our presence in town.”
