Plans to transform parts of intu Milton Keynes shopping centre have been described as one of the most significant retail and leisure developments in the area in over a decade.
The work will focus around remodelling the 430,000 sq ft centre’s popular Midsummer Boulevard to provide a new two-level dining quarter and a five screen boutique cinema.
The new leisure offer will give consumers a choice of top restaurant facilities and an alternative cinema experience with luxurious seating and access to high quality food to enhance the all-round experience.
Externally, intu will create a number of green public spaces to cater for outdoor community and entertainment events whilst cementing the centre’s position at the heart of the community.
Regional director of intu, Martin Breeden, believes that the plans will prove popular with residents and visitors to Milton Keynes.
He says; “The mission here is twofold: to create prime, well configured retail and catering space and also high quality public spaces.
“intu Milton Keynes is the busiest part of the city centre with the strongest retail mix and now we are looking forward to making the most of the Boulevard area.”
intu Milton Keynes is already a hugely successful centre, with anchor tenant Debenhams and brands including H&M, Apple and Hollister bringing in a footfall of 16 million per year.
The redevelopment is part of a £1.3 billion ten-year programme of improvements from which centres including intu Broadmarsh in Nottingham and intu Potteries in Stoke-on-Trent are already benefiting.
Intu Properties operates many of the UK’s most popular retail and leisure destinations, including intu Trafford Centre, intu Lakeside and intu Metrocentre. The company also has a growing presence in the Spanish market.
