Resorts World Birmingham, which is scheduled to open later this year, has announced that it is now almost 80 per cent let following a trio of new signings.
Restaurant chains TGI Fridays and Pizza Express and fashion brand Next have all pre-let significant units within the development, which will cost around £150 million to complete. TGI will occupy a 6,200 sq ft unit while Pizza Express’s will measure around 3,000 sq ft, making these restaurants two of the largest at the resort.
Next, meanwhile, will become the third anchor tenant within the resort’s 50 unit retail outlet centre. Its unit will measure 10,000 sq ft and will be located alongside the Nike and Gap Outlet stores which confirmed their tenancies at the end of 2014.
Resorts World Birmingham is owned and operated by Genting UK, and the group will run and manage both the boutique hotel and the casino at the development. Managing director of development Steve Myers believes the latest additions to the tenant mix will prove extremely popular with visitors and local consumers.
He says; “Next is one of the UK’s most popular and successful retail brands and we welcome them to the Resorts World development as one of the three anchor retail units.
“In addition, having exchanged agreements with both Pizza Express and TGI’s, we have secured two further national operators to the scheme in line with our leasing strategy.
“We are excited by these additions to the tenant mix, which is crucial to us as owner operators, and will shortly be announcing further high profile operators for the remaining retail and leisure space.”
According to Mr Myers, it will not take long for the remaining available units at the complex to be let as numerous retail and leisure brands have already made enquiries and expressed a strong interest in joining the scheme. In fact, there are at present a significant number of units which are in the latter stages of negotiation, indicating that further announcements will be made in the near future.
The development is currently entering the final stage of construction, and the fit out of several units has already begun to ensure that all tenants will be prepared for the official opening in late summer. Once completed, it will become the first development of its kind in Europe, with both Genting UK and local tourism operators hoping this will prove a strong draw for visitors to the city.
Its location next to the NEC and strong transport links into the city centre will ensure that Resorts World Birmingham will become a strong competitor in Birmingham’s diverse retail and leisure sectors.
