Beeston, a suburb located just outside of Nottingham city centre has launched a loyalty card scheme to encourage local people to shop in commercial properties in the local area.
The scheme was launched by the Business Improvement District (BID) for the Beeston area. The scheme is designed to offer discounts and incentives to customers buying locally. Each retailer that signs up can choose their own level of discounts to offer customers. So far, the scheme has proved popular with 50 retail commercial properties signing up.
Speaking of the loyalty card scheme, Stephanie Wilkinson, BID manager for the Beeston area, said: “We have a huge resource in terms of the sheer number of people who work in Beeston that needs to be tapped so we now want to encourage local businesses and their employees to come together to ramp up the levels of business that they give to each other.
“If we can encourage those that both live and work in Beeston to support their local businesses we will emerge in a very strong position once the tram works have been completed.”
To ensure the scheme is only used by local people, only people who are employed by businesses in Beeston can join the loyalty scheme. But with 500 retail commercial properties in the area, there is plenty to choose from.
One retailer who has recently signed up to the scheme is already feeling the benefits. Charlie Fogg, who owns a key-cutting and shoe repair commercial property in the area, stated: “It’s a simple gesture that could do really well for companies here and I’ve already seen people come in to use a card.
“It’s good to see the businesses working together to support one another and I hope this card takes off and more businesses start using them.”
Loyalty cards have been used for years, by individual retail commercial properties. The most recognisable include Boots and Tesco. But do you think a loyalty card for a particular area of a city will work? Or should it be broadened to the whole of Nottingham?
