Future generations of chartered surveyors from a South West branch of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors Matrics have helped raise money for one of the region’s largest children’s hospices.

Rising Stars Set Course For Commercial Success

Meeting at Bristol Zoo for its annual dinner the members of RICS Matrics Bristol and West Country dedicated the evening and its fund raising profits to Children’s Hospice South West.

RICS Matrics was created to look after the interests of members entering or not long in the profession of surveying. It supports graduates and chartered surveyors up to 10 years post qualification.

Colliers International’s Jessica Jones has chaired the Bristol and West Country committee of the society since last year, with Gemma Daly as vice-chair. “RICS Matrics provides invaluable support for young surveyors in the local market and we run an array of fantastic events throughout the year,” explained Jones.

“Our membership has increased dramatically this year, a sign of the improving market, but we are always looking for new members to get involved.”

As well as its charity work, the committee organises a number of professional meetings throughout the year, including networking opportunities and continuing professional development (CPD) sessions. It recently organised an inter-professional networking event on board The Matthew, the Bristol-berthed replica of John Cabot’s famous ship.

The Bristol and West Country committee’s next venture is a series of CPD sessions on 16 September, designed for those about to sit the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence examination.

Colliers regional head of office is Tim Davies. “The Bristol office has maintained close connections with RICS Matrics over the years in order to give our rising stars a flying start in a business sector which depends to a great extent on effective networking and good contacts,” he said.

“We are extremely proud of the work Jessica and Gemma have done in keeping RICS Matrics members up to speed within what is a rapidly evolving sector.”
