Do you feel like you are melting in your office or workplace? Is your makeshift fan of cardboard not helping the situation? Well then, it may be time to go home.
A group of Labour MPs have expressed the view that if temperatures in the workplace reach above 30C, employees should be sent home. But there is no law which employers must adhere to, unlike if an office was too cold, in which case employees would be sent home.
So would your employer really send you home because it’s too hot, if they didn’t have to by law?
It would be nice, but let’s get back to reality. Your employer pays you to do a job, not to sunbathe in the garden! It would be far cheaper for them to go out and buy everyone a fan than it would to send the whole office home.
But with the weather set to continue, should commercial properties without air conditioning think about installing it to avoid future situations like this?
Speaking of the glorious weather that we are currently experiencing, Gemma Plumb, MeteoGroup Forecaster, said: “It is the longest period of hot weather since 2006, with prolonged temperatures above the average for the time of year.
“Normally we can expect it to reach 20-22C in England and Wales – today parts of the Midlands, East Anglia, the south coast and London could see 30C-plus.
“At the moment it looks as though the warm weather is going to stay well into next week at least.”
If you’re lucky enough to be able to enjoy it, this is great news. But those stuck in offices with no air-con may be hoping for a return to more ‘British’ temperatures.
