Scottish Power is to move to a new 80,000 sq ft office space in Scotland. The new office is based on the Hamilton International Park (HIP) which is owned by HF Developments. Scottish Power already has an office at the business park, which is used by 800 employees, but with the new office there will be roughly 1800 employees based at HIP.
A spokesperson for Scottish Power stated, “As with any large organisation we have a constant property review, which looks at our existing portfolio of properties and assesses options that are available, and this process is ongoing.”
The firm’s headquarters are based in Cathcart, Glasgow and they also occupy two other offices owned by HF Developments in Strathclyde. It is rumoured that the headquarters could move as the firm wants to move to a larger commercial property in the centre of Glasgow by 2014. So the firm is definitely keeping its roots firmly in Scotland, as Alex Salmond, First Minister at the company expressed, “These plans will underline the company’s commitment to Scotland.”
The new office agreement is believed to be the largest out-of-town office letting in Scotland for many years, as a spokesperson for HF Developments put across, “We think it is the largest out-of-town letting in the West of Scotland in the last seven or eight years.”
With the letting agreement confirmed, HF Developments have invested £50 million into a new development of 223,000 sq ft of eco friendly offices at HIP. They will be the first carbon neutral offices in Scotland and are due to be completed by December of this year. It is not yet clear who will rent these offices, but a spokesman for HF Developments said, “Our strategy two years ago was to target energy companies, whether that be renewables, oil and gas or otherwise as this was clearly the growth sector for Scotland.”
