We all have a favourite artist that we would love to see live and experience the atmosphere of the venue, rather than just watch it on TV a few months down the line. But in order to get tickets, there are a few hurdles that we must go through.
With presales, VIP tickets and those reserved by the artist – are there actually any left for the diehard fan and what are your chances of getting a ticket?
You may or may not be his fan, but a breakdown of a Justin Bieber concert last year sums up beautifully just how hard it is for fans to get tickets. Out of 14,000 tickets, around 1000 were made available for the general public – which in this case, is over excited teenage girls who would have been deeply upset to miss out on the chance of seeing Justin Live!
But what happened to the other 13,000 tickets? 6000 went on presale, 3000 went to his fan club, 2600 were miscellaneous – which were probably for promotions and guest lists, 900 were for VIP’s and 500 were reserved by the man himself.
So by the looks of things, if your aren’t a friend of the artist, have entered a recent competition to win tickets or caught the presales, then your chances of getting a ticket are pretty slim. If you are lucky enough to get tickets, after hours of refreshing the likes of Ticketmaster, then you will more than likely be hit with a service charge. Josh Baron, who co-authored a book regarding Ticketmaster and how hard it is to get tickets, explains.
He said: “Fred Rosen was the CEO of Ticketmaster for a long time. For years there were maybe two or three different price points in a concert venue.
“There’s more now, but they would charge the same service fee. Fred’s point was that the person who’s paying twice as much for a ticket is also willing to pay twice as much for a service fee.”
So it seems that luck has a lot to do with your chances of getting tickets, but you may have to pay over the odds to get them. Have you been to a live concert recently of a major artist? How easy was it to get tickets?
