Shopping and Vending Machine Champagne at Selfridges

Trust a luxury department store to refuse to be satisfied with offering ordinary wares like fizzy soda in its vending machines.

That is something that any retailer can offer but today’s distinguished buyer will appreciate the convenience of being able to pick up his or her very own bottle of champagne, quickly and conveniently.

The bottles of bubbly are being offered at Selfridges flagship store on Oxford Street. Customers will only need to reach into their pockets for a mere £17.99 to buy a mini bottle of Moët & Chandon to quench their thirst. Unfortunately, the bottles are not chilled.

The vending machine is stocked with  crystal minis. The customer pushes the red button to start the process and the vending machine’s golden arm selects a bottle and delivers it to the bottom window of the unit.

Unlike buying a fizzy soda, the customer doesn’t put any coins into the machine to pay for his or her purchase. Instead, the money for the champagne is collected at the till.

Some shoppers may be tempted to pick up a full sized bottle on their way home as a last-minute addition to their Christmas shopping list. The small bottles could also be used as stocking fillers or kept at home for a special night in.

They may even be tempted to treat themselves after a long day of hitting the shops to find perfect gifts for everyone else on their list.

Selfridges has decided to take Christmas to an entirely different level this year, and has transformed the entire fourth floor to a one-stop destination for gifts. Adding the first Moët vending machine is a “decadent addition” to the store’s Christmas Emporium.
