It has been reported thousands of small businesses are still waiting for their promised relief package following the business rates revaluation in April this year.
The government previously promised for business rates relief package to help businesses hit by the rises in rateable value and business rates.
£25 million was arranged for business rates relief package this year.
A significant number of small businesses faced a substantial increase in their business rates, with some of them going up by 3,000 per cent. Furthermore, over 24,000 small businesses have lost small business rates relief partly or wholly, according to CVS, business rates specialists in the UK.
Lack of action from the local authority has been hugely criticised by many.
Some of the local councils have said they are still awaiting instructions from the Department for Communities and Local Government, despite the fact they do not need published guidance from instructions from government to start taking action.
Mark Rigby, Chief Executive of CVS said:
“The money to help those most in need is coming from the government and there is no reason why revised tax demands shouldn’t have been sent out by local councils by now.”
Mr Rigby further added the delays are “simply causing panic, confusion and alarm for small firms.”
