Premier Inn, one of the UK’s largest hotel chains is adding a number of new commercial properties in the South West region. 15 sites have been secured by the hotel chain and already nine hotels have begun construction.
Premier Inn is owned by Whitbread, which also owns Beefeater Grill, Brewers Fayre, Costa, Table Table and Taybarns. John Bates, Head of Acquisitions for the group spoke of a rise in sales as the main reason for expanding.
He said: “Premier Inn is one of the UK’s leading brands. We recently reported excellent sales growth and we are expanding aggressively across the UK as we respond to strong demand and our customers’ desire for more Premier Inn bedrooms in more great locations.”
The nine sites in question are located in; Barry Island, Bicester, Dorchester, Glastonbury, Weston-super-Mare and Weymouth, just to name a few. 465 jobs will be created in these hotels, once they are open to the public.
In addition, six sites set for construction shortly include: Bideford, Exeter (x2), Falmouth, Newport and Tenby. A further 320 jobs will be created once these hotels are completed, which will be welcome news for the south of England.
“The South West is a key market for us and these latest deals add more excellent sites across the region.
“Not only is this great news for our customers, but it is important for the region too, as our investment will create jobs and help to attract additional visitors to the area, boosting the regional economy,” John added.
In total 1,100 new bedrooms will be created across the sites. But the company plans to build a total of 65,000 hotel rooms by 2016, which is an increase of 16,000 rooms – so they have some way still to go to achieve their target.
Do you live in the South West? Do you welcome the plans of Whitbread to open 15 new hotels in your area? Or do you feel that there are already a significant amount of hotels in the region?
