Upmarket bar-restaurant concept The Botanist will soon be opening its doors in Birmingham city centre, having taken-up space on the ground floor of Cheltenham House on Temple Street.
The property has recently undergone a £1.2 million refurbishment programme, creating a 5,000 sq ft space which was quickly snapped up by The Botanist’s owner, the New World Trading Company.
Julian Rose-Gibbs will take up the position of general manager at The Botanist when it opens to the public next month.
He says; “We are really excited to bring The Botanist’s legendary brand and experience to Birmingham.
“The location in Cheltenham House on Temple Street is perfectly situated to benefit those working, living and visiting the city and we can’t wait to add to the exciting mix of leisure and hospitality in the area.”
Although the location is sure to provide a steady supply of consumers to The Botanist, other tenants within Cheltenham House will surely become a core customer base for the lunchtime rush at the pub. They include law firm Broomhall & Co, promotions and retail agency Engaging Faces, PR agency Headline Communications and property investor and developer Antringham Estates, who occupy units measuring upwards of 500 sq ft on the upper floors of the property.
The Birmingham outlet will be only the sixth location for The Botanist in the UK, and marks the chain’s first attempt to break into the Midlands market. Hopes are high that this new opening will prove just as lucrative as those in other northern cities including Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle.
In total, around 100 new jobs are expected to be created by the opening, making the pub and restaurant sectors two of the strongest categories for jobs creation in Birmingham during 2015 so far. Already this year, Cosy Club has confirmed that it will be launching a new venture in nearby Midland Bank, while Indian restaurant chain Lasan has taken up space within 130 Colmore Row.
Managing director of the New World Trading Company, Chris Hill, voiced his excitement about the new opening, believing The Botanist will be received warmly by drinkers and diners in Birmingham. He also revealed that the venue will play host to live music events during the evenings and in exclusive Sunday afternoon sessions.
He continued; “The eclectic food and drink offering in Birmingham has a great reputation, which is why we’ve chosen to make the city the newest destination for The Botanist.
“We’ve had great success in the North East and North West and are looking forward to making our mark in the second city.”
