Taxi bookings firm Uber is relocating from its current London headquarters to Aldgate Tower in the City fringe, doubling the size of its London office space.
Uber will take 40,000 sq ft at Aldgate Tower after it vacates its 20,000 sq ft office in King’s Cross. The firm was advised by BNP Paribas Real Estate, which believes the proximity to Liverpool Street station and Shoreditch will allow for further growth as the firm experiences a huge rise in demand for its services.
The Aldgate Developments scheme is forecast to be one of London’s most sought after addresses for growing businesses, with director of Aldgate Developments Paul Molloy claiming the property is ideal for “modern and confident 21st century businesses.”
Uber will join growing firm WeWork as a major tenant of Aldgate Tower – the company offers high-end office space to start-ups, allowing London’s already booming entrepreneurial scene to flourish even further.
In total, Aldgate Tower offers 317,000 sq ft of space, with column free floor plates of 20,000 sq ft ensuring tenants can make the most of the flexible space they occupy. The property has achieved a BRREAM “Excellent” Rating and utilises the latest in renewable technology in order to keep business costs to a minimum.
Founded by Stumbleupon creator Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick of Red Swoosh in 2008, the taxi booking firm operates largely through a smartphone app allowing passengers to pay remotely through a connection to the PayPal system.
First launched in the USA, the firm is now spreading significantly through major European cities and expanding its customer database accordingly.
Chief executive Travis Kalanick is confident that the service will continue to expand, and under the current plan has the potential to create upwards of 50,000 jobs in Europe over the next few years.
