A former bowling alley could be developed into a multi-use commercial property, which would include a Travelodge hotel, if plans are given the go ahead.
The commercial property in Harrogate has been bought by Gregory Projects Ltd, who will develop the site and are currently in the process of putting together a planning application. The new development will include a 78 bedroom Travelodge and 6960 sq ft of space situated below the hotel, available for retail or leisure units.
Speaking of the Travelodge’s s success in the area, Tony O’Brien, Development Director, expressed: “Our existing Harrogate hotel performs strongly all year round and we have long been on the look out for a suitable second site.”
Travelodge have already agreed a 25 year lease with the developers and if the plans are accepted by the local council, the new commercial property should be ready for trading, early 2013.
Speaking of the development, Richard Tovey of Gregory Projects Ltd, stated: “The bowling alley on Tower Street closed down in July 2009 and the site owner had been unable to attract another occupier despite a thorough marketing campaign. Over this period the buildings deteriorated and are now a bit of an eye sore.”
“We are pleased to have acquired the site based on the support of Travelodge which has given us the confidence to progress an exciting new leisure and retail attraction for the area. The existing multi storey car park adjacent will benefit the development and we anticipate strong occupier interest in the ground floor as Harrogate is currently a thriving town from a retail and leisure perspective,” Mr Tovey added.
Acting on behalf of the developers, in charge of marketing the commercial property are Leeds based offices; Jones Land LaSalle and Lambert Smith Hampton.
