Wales has been hit by devastation recently as the wet weather has seen many commercial properties having to close their doors for a considerable amount of time to clean up their properties. But not all businesses will be able to survive the costs of the clean up alongside a loss of sales and may end up in administration, according to Welsh tourism leaders.
Commercial properties based in the north and middle of Wales have been the worst affected. Understandably, many tourists have been put off visiting the country this summer, amid fears about being trapped by floods or unable to get home.
In a statement, Chris Osborne, Chairman of the Tourism Alliance in Wales said: “I don’t know if this is as bad as it gets but certainly there are tales of lack of visitors and people very concerned about the future.
“There’s an absence of activity in lots of towns because, quite simply, the car parks are empty – the people aren’t even coming down for the day.”
But with the wet weather set to continue, this is bad news for businesses that were already suffering with poor sales. The camping and holiday industry has been one of the worst affected with the number of people pitching tents in the area down by 60 per cent and the number of people booking holiday accommodation down by 25 per cent.
Speaking of the difficulties, Mr Osborne added: “Basically, it means that if businesses were suffering before, they’re sure as hell are suffering now and I think it’s more than likely there will be some casualties.”
Are you planning to visit Wales anytime soon? Do you think things will pick up for the country or do you think many Welsh commercial properties will be forced to close their doors for good due to the adverse weather conditions?
