Now the Olympic and Paralympic Games are over, many of us are left thinking what will happen to the Olympic venues? Will they open straight away or will we have to wait a while to see them in all their glory once again?
According to Which? the Olympic Park will be renamed the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, and will reopen in July 2013 (well parts of the venue anyway). But to keep people interested in the site until then, Olympic organisers have decided to run bicycle, boat and bus tours of the commercial property, which plan to start in December. During the tour people may also be able to go up the 114 metre Orbit Tower. Prices have not been made public as yet.
As well as being a tourist attraction, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will hold an annual festival of disability sport. With the Paralympics proving so successful and popular, the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC), who are responsible for the future of the venue wanted to make sure they made a lasting legacy.
Speaking of the festival, Daniel Moylan, Chairman of the LLDC, said: “This has been the most successful Paralympics in the history of the Games.
“Thousands of people will be inspired to get involved in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and we want to make sure there are opportunities for everyone.”
In addition to the festival, venues will also be created for disabled sports. These will include: boccia, goalball, wheelchair basketball and rugby.
“We are also setting the standard for providing accessible venues and parklands, along with employment and training opportunities for disabled people,” Daniel added.
The Olympic Park is set to open fully in 2014, with events starting from 2015. The commercial property will be surrounded by a remodelled plaza compromising of new gardens and parks.
