Meanwhile the Cancer Research UK Race For Life looks set to sign up its 2,000th entrant this week, and many more women are still being asked to put their names forward. With Mothering Sunday coming up this weekend and spring in the air at last, the organisers of the fun run want to see lots of mum-and-daughter teams signing up to the event this week.
Appealing to women throughout Selby, York and North Yorkshire, event organiser Jenny Key said the run was for women of “all shapes and fitness levels”.
She commented: “Many women are putting off entering Race For Life because they think they won’t be able to complete it.
“But we know that women often cover several kilometres on an average shopping trip, without even realising it, so taking part in Race For Life is definitely achievable.
Cancer Research UK said 5,365 women ran, jogged or walked Race For Life in York last year, helping to raise a staggering £289,000. The total number of entries so far for the June 29 run stood at 1,960 and Cancer Research UK hopes to see 6,900 women this year-helping to reach the goal of £440,000.
Miss Key further added: “One-in-three people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives.
“But the good news is that more people are beating the disease than ever before.”
Women can sign up for Tesco and Cancer Research UK’s Race For Life by phoning 0871 641 111 or online at raceforlife.org
