Why Should a Commercial Property Agent Use Twitter?

Posted on 14 September, 2011 by MOVEHUT

Twitter has been established since 2006 and currently has in excess of 200 million users, in which over 100 million are active users. But what can twitter do to help commercial property agents to sell and advertise their properties? Movehut investigates.

Twitter states that businesses should use Twitter as, “Twitter connects businesses to customers in real-time. Businesses use Twitter to quickly share information with people interested in their products and services, gather real-time market intelligence and feedback, and build relationships with customers, partners and influential people. From brand lift, to CRM, to direct sales, Twitter offers businesses a chance to reach an engaged audience.”

But with only 140 characters per Tweet, what can Twitter really do that is so beneficial to commercial property agents. We found:

  • Branding – people chose to follow you, you have not made them follow you, so therefore they are already interested in your company and your brand
  • Engaging – you will be able to connect with your followers, some of whom will be your existing clients, but others may be your prospective customers. By tagging people and engaging in Tweet conversations could actively put you at the forefront of their mind
  • Advertising – you can promote your company news, offers and new properties as they come in. A Tweet is short, brief and can also include a link back to your website
  • Competitors – you can follower your rivals to keep up to date on their latest developments, how many people follow them and also what their customers are saying about them. Obviously, this works both ways so they too can keep an eye on you
  • Update on the go – with applications available for Iphone, Blackberry and Android smartphones and with its own mobile site, you can post a Tweet wherever you are. You can also text a Tweet, so you can be in constant contact with your followers at all times
  • Hashtags – Using the # symbol before a word enables any user to search for a particular topic, and find related information, for example #commercialproperty.

However, it can be easy to get too involved with Twitter, checking every Tweet that people have said about you and following people back for fear that they will unfollow you. So getting the right balance is essential.

Here at movehut, we are active tweeters on Twitter as we post daily blog news and Tweets about commercial properties that we have listed on our website. New and exciting Tweets will be added to our feed in the next few months, but you will have to wait and see what we have in store.
