Wolverhampton Retail and Office Development Approved

A scheme to create new retail and office space at the interchange next to the main city centre bus station in Wolverhampton has been approved.

It is anticipated that approximately 250 jobs will be safeguarded or created as a result of the scheme which will also include restaurants and coffee shops. The council said that potential tenants for the site have already been identified.

Peter Bilson, the council cabinet member for economic regeneration and prosperity, said recently that the current economic climate is “extremely tough” and that the authority is facing huge financial pressures of its own.

He commented that while there is a responsibility to deliver a balanced budget, there is also a duty to meet “key aims and objectives.” He stated that boosting confidence in regenerating the city is one of them.

The work on the new development is expected to start in the spring of 2014 and be completed by the summer of 2015.
