Worlds Tallest Hotel Opens in Dubai

Dubai is quickly becoming the luxury destination of choice for many holidaymakers, which has led to a huge boom in leisure property construction. Last week, the 1,164 foot tall JW Marriott Marquis hotel  opened for business, taking the title of “World’s Tallest Hotel” from the nearby 1,093 ft Rose Tower.

Owned by Emirates Group, the gargantuan structure contains all the requirements for the ideal break in one of the world’s most exotic locations. As well as nine restaurants and five bars, visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the two ballrooms, spa facility and health club all offered under the hotel’s roof.

As of yet only one of the property’s two towers has opened to guests, which has 804 rooms comprising of 506 standard King rooms, 156 standard twin rooms and 118 corner suites. However, for those who wish to really blow the budget on their foreign holiday, the remaining space contains 22 individually designed King rooms and two presidential suites.

There are also four rooms which have been specifically designed and fitted for those with disabilities.

Unfortunately, luxury among the clouds does not come cheap, with rooms per person starting at $326 per night. This is the equivalent of £215 – a little pricey for the majority of UK holidaymakers struggling with their household budgets!

Yet Marriott International President and CEO, Arne Sorenson, believes that visitors to the new hotel will get their money’s worth with the service and facilities on offer.

He says; “Dubai is an important destination for Marriott International as one of the world’s most exciting cities offering world-class facilities and infrastructure, central location in the region and further growth potential.

“Our expanding collection of world-class JW Marriott hotels offers accomplished travellers a one-of-a-kind luxury experience.

“The investment in this unique and visually stunning hotel is testament to the continued opportunities that lie ahead for the brand and company.”

As Dubai is one of the world’s fastest growing economies, it seems only logical that many companies are attempting to get a foot in the door. International executives from industries including the service and financial sectors fly into the city on a daily basis, with commercial space in the city being snapped up almost as soon as it appears on the market.

Perhaps this is one of the reasons why the JW Marriott Marquis has made a special effort to appeal to business clients, having ensured that the building has the capacity to cater to a convention of 1,000 people.

General manager Rupprecht Queitsch acknowledges this fact, saying; “Conference organizers and businesses around the world are noticing Dubai’s growing influence as a global business hub.

“We are thrilled to be officially open and believe this iconic new property will set a new standard in business hotels, not just in the region, but throughout the world.”

The second tower in the development is nearing completion, and is expected to open in early 2014.
