It may not be on your list of countries to visit any time soon, but Hilton Hotels and Resort have announced plans to build Iraq’s first 300 room hotel in Erbil, located in the north of the country.
Along with 300 bedrooms, the commercial property hotel will be set in a picturesque location with spectacular views of mountains – a far cry from what we have seen on television and in newspapers over the last nine years.
The hotel will be set in its own complex where guests of the commercial property will be able to enjoy a health club as well as both indoor and outdoor pools, a retail outlet and a selection of restaurants and bars.
The company is also hoping to attract businesses to the resort by including facilities such as event and meeting rooms, including a ballroom for up 1000 people and two boardrooms.
Speaking of the development in Iraq, Dave Horton, global head of Hilton Hotels & Resorts said: “Iraq is a significant new market for our brand and we are thrilled to be able to offer visitors to Erbil the consistent high brand standards that guests experience in over 80 countries worldwide.”
Northern Iraq is an undiscovered part of the world and has been listed in the top 20 best trips by National Geographic. It is growing in the tourism industry as the area benefits from great temperatures and the attractive landscape. The economy is also growing with the help of oil, agriculture and the tourism trade.
“Hilton Erbil Hotel & Spa is set to be an outstanding, landmark property and we look forward to welcoming guests to one of the most beautiful and unexplored areas of the Middle East,” Dave Horton added.
The Hilton brand is one of the largest chains in the world and has been going for the last 93 years. Today they have a portfolio of around 3800 hotels in 88 different countries. They also have 550 hotel & resorts in 80 different countries.
The hotel will be developed by the Mihtab Group and is expected to be open in 2016.
Is Iraq on your list of places to visit? It may not be now, but in 2016 you may feel differently.
