400 Million Dollars in Building Permits Means Merry Christmas for Williston

Williston, North Dakota, is in the middle of a building boom. The city is expanding at such a rapid pace that it has announced plans to annex nearly 5,000 additional acres into its limits. The new space would bring its size to 13,000 acres. The 20 sections of land will mean a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for the new planners, inspectors, and building compliance code workers hired to keep track of the new development workers the city has had to hire to keep track of it all.

Granite Peak Development of Wyoming is one of the key players developing the city, which is located in one of the fastest growing areas in the oil patch. The company has stayed focused on planned urban growth and is keeping the new development located as close to the existing Williston buildings as possible.

The company is currently focused on a project located south of Harvest Hills, which includes 300 acres of commercial and residential development located near the Sand Creek drainage. It is called the Sand Creek Towne Center. The regional shopping centre will be located here, along with housing for the majority of the local population.

The commercial zone will also include big box and junior box stores. Five hotels, a convention center, a medical facility and a grocery store will also be available to residents. Plans call for hundreds of thousands of square feet of commercial and residential space in the Sand Creek Towne Center development.

Property values are higher now because they can be included in city services. The city has a permanent population of 20,500 people. An additional 15,000 live in man camps and work in the oil fields or live nearby and come into Williston to shop, dine, or use other services. According to recent estimates, the community will add another 38,000 people by 2016.
