Commercial property agents across the globe are facing hefty communication problems, following the news, that Skype has encountered problems with signing in feature on the application.
Skype is a software application that allows users to make voice and video calls and to chat over the internet.
With around 663 million users worldwide, this disruption to the network is likely to have an extremely wide ranging effect.
Skype is used in many serviced offices and commercial properties across the world. Businesses, whether large blue chip, or small local companies see the system as an excellent way of keeping costs of both international and local phone calls to a minimum.
In fact, there are a large number of serviced offices, which rely on Skype as their sole way of making outbound calls, as the system was previously seen as a reliable and cost effect way of making calls.
Following a number of complaints, Skype confirmed on its twitter feed at around 12 noon, that, ‘A small number of you may have problems signing in to Skype. We’re investigating the cause, and hope to have more details to share soon.’
Many people have registered anger at the suggestion that only a small number of people have been affected by the problems. South African Web Developer, Paul Watson, said on twitter: ‘Not sure about @skype’s idea of ‘small number’. Everyone I know who uses Skype is offline.’
This is the second time the application has crashed in as many weeks. A number of people believe the problems may have something to do with the acquisition of Skype Communication, by Microsoft Corporation, for US$8.5 billion, last month. These accusations are totally unfounded though.
However, if these problems do continue, Skype could well see many businesses turning their back on the system.
Hopefully, companies had a back up in place and did not lose vast amounts of potential business, as a result of today’s problems.
