A Serviced Office In A Bedroom?

Posted on 26 May, 2011 by MOVEHUT

I am sure that we have all thought of working from home as opposed to in a serviced office or commercial property of some sort but what if we don’t have an extra room to turn into a serviced office?

Well, then we could look at using the bedroom as a multipurpose room, for both sleeping and working.

We can do this in a number of ways depending, obviously, on the inherent size and layout of the room itself. If one has a room with very high ceilings then there is the possibility of raising the bed or sleeping area up to a mezzanine type level and putting a workstation underneath on a permanent basis.

As long as the working area does not exceed that of the original sleeping area, then you still have the same amount of bedroom space but with an added work area. The main problem with this is that you do end up feeling that you are sleeping in the office. The best solution is if you can combine the two, but in such a way that when it is a bedroom there is no trace of the office.

When designing serviced offices that must also be bedrooms, it is important that the space can carry out both functions, without effecting the other too much.

In other words the bedroom serviced office must look and feel like an office in the day, and yet easily convert into the relaxing bedroom space that is needed in the evening. Any computers and other office machinery must be hidden and any filing systems must look just like normal bedroom furniture.

Yes, the bedroom is sacred space and in an ideal world, it’s kept free of laptops and work devices. Still, if you live in a studio apartment or you’re really short on space, sometimes the bedroom is the only place a desk can fit. Hotel rooms often demonstrate a few different methods of integrating a workspace into a bedroom. Some use wall-mounted desks or a narrow strip of wall-mounted shelving to carve out an office area. Others use a small table in a nook, with an armchair that can double as a desk chair or a place to curl up and read a book.

So, use your imagination and you will always come up with an elegant solution.
