Media City Bringing New Commercial Property Prosperity To Salford

Posted on 15 June, 2011 by MOVEHUT

Media City UK is perhaps one of the most talked about commercial property developments of the last decade.

The idea of the media city site was first muted many years ago and construction on the project was started around three years ago.  With the first phase of the development entering completion, the skyline of Salford Quays has now changed forever.

The development has sent the area of Salford Quays, almost full circle, yet with a modern twist. An area which in the 1920s and 1930s was dominated by industrial commercial property, is now home to commercial property of another kind, in the guise of serviced office blocks.

Peel Group, the developers of the projects state on the website, Media City UK ‘will be a place for collaboration and new ideas; a community for people from across the digital and creative industries.’

The first phase of the project includes, 70,000 sqft of office space; 250,000 sqft of high definition studios; a public park and events space, which is to be twice the size of Trafalgar Square; 378 new apartments; a hotel; a supermarket and a 2,200 space car park.

The development has attracted a number of high profile names and the BBC move is set to be completed by the end of this year.

Many other well known companies are now set to move their operations to the brand new commercial property site and the adjoining area.

Conrad O’Neill, partner at office property specialist Canning O’Neill, said: ‘It is clear that occupiers have waited until the BBC started to physically move in…The expected influx of occupiers in anticipation of the BBC moving to MediaCityUK didn’t materialise, due to the economy, but now that the BBC are moving in, the floodgates appear to be opening.’

It has been announced recently, that a further 29,653 sq ft of high specification office space has been let out at the neighbouring Digital World Centre, with The Daily Telegraph and Regus being just two of the high profile tenants.

It is hoped by all that the Media City development will bring a new age of commercial property prosperity to Salford.
