Real Estate Management UK Ltd (REM) – a joint venture between the State of Qatar, Qatar National Bank and the Sellar family – has marked the completion of the structure of its 48 Pall Mall development with a topping out ceremony.
The St James’s office building, which combines with neighbouring 49 Pall Mall, will provide 32,000 sq ft of high specification office space across nine floors, together with three roof terraces. It has been designed by Trehearne Architects to achieve a BREEAM excellent rating and is due to be completed towards the end of this year or early in 2016.
The construction involved erecting a new limestone façade to complement the retained façade of 49 Pall Mall. The facade incorporates contemporary artwork by award-winning design studio Timorous Beasties. A second artwork will be embossed in bronze concrete within the expansive reception area.
Hamish Mckenzie , Development Director of REM, which is developing 48 Pall Mall on behalf of the State of Qatar, said: “The topping out at 48 Pall Mall recognises the hard work and talent that has gone into developing such an impressive new building.
“St James’s is changing and adapting to the needs of modern business, but there is still a significant shortage of high specification workspace.
“We have designed 48 Pall Mall to contribute positively to the area’s architectural excellence and offer a compelling proposition for ambitious businesses looking for future-proofed offices that bring out the very best in their employees.”
The location has excellent transport links, being just a few minutes’ walk from Green Park, Charing Cross and Piccadilly Circus underground, and is surrounded by restaurants, hotels, art galleries and luxury retailers. Approximately £500 million is currently being invested in the district, making St James’s one of the most prestigious business addresses in London.
REM was established in 2012 and the assets under its management include The Shard and The News Building at London Bridge Quarter and Park House in Mayfair. REM also established and owns The View from The Shard which attracts around a million visitors a year.
